We just bought this grinder for my girlfriend as it was the only that felt comfortable in her small hands. At 6.5 amps, it's not as powerful as larger offerings, but it handily cut through a 1" thick barrel lock which secured the hitch on her truck. We haven't ground any shovels edges which is what we mainly bought it for, but I have no doubt it will easily handle that task. If you have smaller hands and/or don't plan on doing a lot of heavy duty cutting and grinding, I highly recommend this model. I've used other Makita tools (I own the 601 LXT kit) and the build quality matches what I'm familiar and satisfied with. Comes with metal grinding wheel, case, guard and wrench.

I needed a 4-inch grinder with a 3/8" arbor adapter for using flap discs in my welding shop. My ancient Makita had finally died, so I bought this one to replace it. The grinder is well-balanced, reasonably powerful, and smooth running. The angled side grip is a nice touch, and is more ergonomic than the old one. The power cord is reasonably long, and made of actual rubber, not cheap plastic. It coils well, and doesn't hold memory too badly (which is good, because it has to be coiled very tightly to fit in the case: see below).The case, however, needs some work. It holds the grinder and a few wheels, but the cord has to be coiled just right, or else the case won't close. Come on Makita, there was plenty of room to give me more than 2" for the cord. Heck, you could have left the whole top of the case unmolded, and given me room for a pair of gloves, or a short extension cord. Instead, you molded the entire thing full of empty plastic, and the case is annoying to use.Nonetheless, I bought the grinder, not the case. The grinder works great, and lets me make use of small-diameter arbor flap discs.

i don't know why places like lowe's aren't carrying these things anymore. all anybody seems to have these days are 4 1/2" inch grinders, which are great for grindind, but not much good for cutting through porcelain, or granite, which is what i do. this does the job nicely, and i get a much better lifespan out of these than any of the other companies making 4" grinders. if i had to pick a fault in these things, it would be that adjusting the position of the blade shield is kind of a pain, for us ambidextruous people that want to switch hands when making complicated cuts.
